  1. I wonder who’s relative got that sweet contract. This is the sort of crooked shite you see going on in Russia.

  2. “The stand was built with a special cantilevered canopy that is designed to protect from the prevailing northerly winds. It has not been fully enclosed however, with some believing it leaves their bikes too exposed to the elements”

Imagine what it would cost if they actually put up 4 walls

  3. That question will be put out to tender. Multiple managers will retain expensive consultants to draft a response. The responses will be returned to the board, who will vote on the response to be given. ETA 6 months.

  4. The OPW is not used to working with any material other than concrete so it’s possible they lost the run of themes with this stuff.

  5. I think the funniest outcome, given that the refusal to release more documents was done under “security grounds”, is if it turns out they were hiding some thing on the grounds of Leinster House and the shed was just a cover, but the ridiculousness of it just causes it all to come out anyway. Renovating the tunnel to the old government bunker say.

  6. Around €18k a bike. But I can’t get carers allowance despite having 2 children with special needs.

  7. Next: OPW to commission independent review of tendering and procurement of bike mansion, at low low cost of €3.35m

  8. Has it been revealed which company actually carried out the works?

As with everything in this country, follow the money.

  9. Honestly we need a law change that allows blatantly underperfoming civil servants to be replaced.

  10. Looks like any bike rack anywhere except this one has a bus stop built around it, without the sides though so the bikes get wet

  11. We really do deserve the fuckery that comes out of this country on a daily basis. No ones kicks up a storm and when they do they get blasted from every corner by the very people who supported them in the first place. Nothing will come out of this as per usual and same shite headline will appear in a few weeks/months and we will rinse and repeat.

  12. ‘Asked for a copy of the business case for the project, the OPW said none had been needed.’

    Just lol.

  13. Sir Humphrey Appleby:

    > Clarification is not to clarify things. It is to put one’s self in the clear!

  14. Why isn’t this ringing alarm bells at CAB ? Clearly this contract was awarded to someone in exchange for a favour ILLEGALLY, brown envelope type of deal.

My company did something similar , an outdoor bike storage area , enclosed , steel construction , clad with mesh sides , sloped steel roof . Inside had space for about 20 bikes with those low profile bike racks .fabricated , galvanised and installed on site

It was for one of the HSE buildings in the city I’m pretty sure. We did it for less than 1/20th of the price of this . THIS is a clear case of corruption. Someone clearly has a friend somewhere at the contractor that made this shed and gave them the job and allowed them to overcharge. As someone in the steel fabrication industry , I can tell you now , there’s NO reason for a shed of this size/spec to cost that much
