Sadly this chap is parroting out the usual western narrative.
Kurst was the biggest military folly. To think Russia will be bowed by this is delusional. Their negotiating stance will harden. It is a folly because the Ukrainian forces are trapped in a fire bag with the Russians just picking off the best Ukrainian troops and Nato supplied equipment. No resources have been diverted from the Donbas.(No one has been able to name a Significant Russian unit that was diverted from Donbas after the kurst incursion). The Donbas front has now collapsed because of all the resources the Ukainians sent to the Kurst. The ukrainians have hastened the arrival of their own demise. The Russians are already squeezing the Ukrainians in the fire bag and whats left of them will be ejected from Russia when President Putin is ready. Yes, it does seems the Russians were caught off guard but only because they never thought the Ukrainians would try anything so silly. The simple fact is that the Russians must be laughing at the Ukrainians for handing them this win on a plate. As far as the Russians are concerned the whole frolic is an example of serendipity. The Russians are sitting there hoping for the Ukrainians to do the same thing somewhere else. The Russians will deal with it the same way.
Please, Please readers, do proper research before listening to ex military self appointed expert types who are self styled analysts with a political agenda.
If you just rely on people like Hamish you will get a distorted version of reality and may even think that Ukraine will come out of this with something other than a complete defeat.
