Macron’s political ‘mess’: ‘So much disillusionment’ among youth in France and across Western world’

French President Emmanuel Macron faces an uphill battle to form a new government, with the political left now refusing to take part after he rejected their candidate for prime minister. More than seven weeks after an inconclusive parliamentary election which cost his allies their relative majority, Macron has still not named a new prime minister to take over from the current caretaker administration. Left-wing coalition the New Popular Front (NFP) emerged from the vote as the largest bloc, but well short of an absolute majority. In the 577-seat National Assembly, the NFP has over 190 seats, followed by Macron’s centrist alliance at around 160 and Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally at 140. The NFP have nevertheless demanded that the president pick their candidate Lucie Castets, a 37-year-old economist with a history of left-wing activism. But late Monday, Macron ruled out naming a left-wing government, saying it would be a “threat to institutional stability”. Instead, he called on “all political leaders to rise to the occasion by demonstrating a spirit of responsibility”. As consensus eludes Macron, in a complex French political landscape, largely paralyzed amid widespread defiance and cynical politicking, FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen is joined by Political Consultant and Community Organizer, Hind Ziane, CEO and Founder of Génération politique.

  1. I love how the right says that the left is a threat to France. Meanwhile, the right-wing ideology is the biggest threat in the modern history of France.💀

  2. Incredibly misleading to guess on Macron emotions, a reach to far into fiction. It's all a bit of a eye roll watching these childish power plays by Party Leaders. Others have to actually WORK for a living. The voting population picked these adult politicians to actual govern together. So then do the WORK, debate issues but then deliver. Voters are not served by political picks if nothing but chaos happens on purpose from their political players egos & power games.
Try focusing on SERVING the PEOPLE instead of posturing. Learn to compromise.
Hard working adults do such daily in the population. The one that granted you ALL the privilege to SERVE by actually governing together and delivering.

  3. Right now Ciotti Is possibly the only politician that could hold a sorto of "coalition" with the centre and keeping the right as an external support.
For the left it's clearly impossible, as it was a mismatch alliance of people against someone else from the begin, but with little to nothing in common to held the circus together.

  4. It seems the wisest course is for him to pick one of own party as potential PM who then will try to round up as much of a majority as possible
to pass legislation and a budget and not to give opponents anything which will ultimately reflect poorly on them.France is fortunate to have so decisive a leader as Macron.

  5. Insane. American here. This makes no sense. Why does he get any say on the new PM…why are they waiting for his permission THEY HAVE THE MOST SEATS
(no judgement…we recently had a coup attempt)
