  1. Sad that Halloween or Sleepaway Camp franchise isnt there. Though, Sleepaway camp got worse each movie. I also never really considered Scary Movie as a horror, nor Alien.

  2. Source: Wikipedia

Tools: Mokkup.ai, a dashboard wireframing tool that uses reactflow for wireframing dashboards

  3. Seeing Conjuring ranked so high surprises me. I’m also surprised to see Saw ranked so low, especially since everyone I know, even non-horror fans, has seen at least one of the Saw movies, which isn’t as common with The Conjuring.
Side note: If you create infographics like that, it’s a good idea to start with the lowest on the left. 🙂

  4. I don’t understand what people have against y-axes, because I can’t read the tiny text on top of each bar. It’s really sad that this sub has become more about the extraneous images people append to the data visualization instead of making sure actual data elements like axes labels and legends are legible.

  5. It’s too bad, because the overall design of the chart isn’t bad, but wow the actual contents are questionable at best.

Hotel Transylvania and Scary Movie are horror franchises?

What constitutes the Dracula franchise? Every movie that’s ever featured Dracula as the main antagonist?

  6. I can’t comment on the data, but just feel the need to put it out into the ether that I thought the remake of IT absolutely sucked. Never did see the sequel.

Clowns are dumb, loud noises aren’t scary. I go to see horror to have my mind maimed, not my ears.

Before anyone else says it…yes, I know these films are simply not for me.

  7. Resident Evil is #5? As a _film_ franchise? Doesn’t count game sales?

I thought the RE movies were pretty bad? Did they do well at the box office though, apparently? Maybe made most of their money internationally, in Japan?

  8. No one is saying that there aren’t exceptions to the idea that horror isn’t a high-grossing genre. That being said, these are clearly not representative of the success of the average horror film in 2024.

  9. What is the use of an “average cost of film” bar when there are so vastly differing amounts of films per franchise?

  10. According to Wikipedia, Halloween is the top-grossing American horror franchise of all time when adjusted for inflation:

“The *Halloween* series, when compared to the other top-grossing American horror series—[*A Nightmare on Elm Street*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Nightmare_on_Elm_Street_(franchise)), [*Child’s Play*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child%27s_Play_(franchise)), [*Friday the 13th*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th_(franchise)), [*Saw*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_(franchise)), [*Scream*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scream_(franchise)), and [*The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Texas_Chainsaw_Massacre_(franchise))—and adjusting for 2023 inflation is the highest-grossing horror series in the United States at approximately $1.09 billion”
