Barca 18/19 season it’s not my fav but it’s definitely one of my fav. Its actually insane just how terrible this team was I didn’t even think we could make it that far into the UCL but we did Messi was carrying this team so hard I really believed we were gonna win.

  1. Probably one of our most underrated seasons ever. We were only three games away from winning the treble.

  2. Messi this season was extraordinarily good. It’s hard to match that level of performance

  3. This season had me really convinced we were going to win the treble… then it all came crashing down 😕

  4. The “100% Belief” Team.

Obviously, Messi was a monster but let’s not forget the devil Suarez too, he was crazy good.

  5. That team was basically Messi, Messi, Messi and Ter Stegan. Sad to see how Ter Stegan has declined since then

  6. for some reason i didn’t really follow this season except the last matche ever since the Liverpool matches. honestly idk how a bunch of dudes chasing a ball made me feel so miserable for a long while

  7. We came close to a perfect season… undefeated in league and oh so close to champions league glory.

Should have been their last dance!

  8. Coutinho was fantastic in ucl
Pique was top 3 defenders in the world
Messi was the best player in the world

  9. I cant get past it and only remember the bad moments. We were a few games away from winning the champions league and the league undefeated season but we had a historic collapse. Just disgusting

  10. Messi almost single handedly delivered his promise of bringing UCL to Camp Nou. But sadly…

  11. That 4-0 loss has been, to this day, the worst of all losses.. I was depressed for a very long time.

  12. Beautiful and amazing memories of that season. Everything changed after Anfield. That game changed everything for the team, players never recovered their form, the team struggled even domestically, and we haven’t made a deep run in the ucl since. I’ve had completely different expectations from the team since Anfield and no pain compares to that. I’m just numb at this point every season, every elimination. Just hearing the Stadium name triggers me. They weren’t even better than us as a team. We played like shit that game and beat ourselves

  13. I don’t want to overdramatize anything but this was probably when the wheels started coming off. Coutinho had season-long issues staying motivated and working in the ”system”, Suarez had a couple phenomenal performances overshadowed by flaking through the most important part of the season, Dembele had a solid season but somehow only played 20 combined minutes in the Liverpool tie (wtf Valverde?), our defense had a very bad start to the season followed by a dominant run up until April after which they fell apart again, the midfield was ok but really got exposed when it mattered most, the football for the most part was individual quality-driven and we basically got carried within an asshair of a treble by 2 players (3 if you count Cillessen’s heroics in the Copa which I will choose to).

This sounds *really* negative for a near-treble season but the mythos of 18/19 is a bit lost on me. At the time without the power of hindsight it was obviously a heartbreaker and a gutwrencher but looking back at the games a couple years later the outcome makes so much sense. The team learned nothing from last season, Valverde learned nothing and ultimately just winning La Liga is about the extent of what we deserved.

18/19 is worth it for watching arguably Messi’s peak, watching Ter Stegen’s peak (which comes at the cost of being exposed to some really dodgy defending), the clasicos (absolute dominance), the Sevilla remontada (especially the last goal), the odd league match (Huesca early on and the Messi show at the Cornella come to mind), replaying Rakitić’s goal against Tottenham like 20 times and then doing the same to Coutinho’s goal against United. Otherwise though, this was a season built on narrative and not really on good football unfortunately.

Sorry for the rant, god bless Kevin-Prince

  14. The best Messi I have ever seen for me he did better than the 91 goal season – the way he carried the Barca team but completely let down by the defence

  15. Does everyone here have rose tinted goggles on when you think about this season? The team looked like a hollow shell, dragged along by an insane Messi and a world class Ter Stegen.

In general I didn’t like this season at all. We lacked intensity something enormously, and even against smaller teams in the league we were forced to defend deep and counter attack. Counter attacking is fine if you have the chance after winning the ball back, but it has to be combined with control. This season we were never in control. We lived in the hope that the opponents wouldn’t be good enough to score, while we had a magician who solved the rest of our problems on his own.

Even after 3-0 against Liverpool I knew we were likely to go out. Having seen the team all season, and in the first leg when it was a pure miracle Liverpool didn’t score a couple of times, it was evident it would all come crashing down eventually.

I’m glad we didn’t go undefeated in the league, because we did not deserve it. It’s an iteration of Barcelona that we should never strive to be again.

  16. it’s probably the very last “GREAT” team we had, regardless of the liverpool and copa elimination, that barça team could compete against any team in the world, it was after this season the decline really started.

also it was probably a top 3 messi season, the insane amount of playmaking, scoring, assisting, everything he did in tandem that season. It was insane.

  17. Messi scored more in that 91 goal season, but I think 18/19 was his peak for us. It was the most complete version of Leo and he did everything from the scoring, assisting, and playmaking.

It’s a shame it all came crashing down in the final few weeks but tbh we weren’t playing that well. Messi and MATS were papering over the cracks almost the entire season and we had a relatively easy road in the CL with Lyon and Man U before Liverpool.

  18. This is the season that got me interested in the team and the sport. My daughter had just been born and Barca matches were on late at night during feedings. Happiest time of my life.

  19. Messi really almost won barca a treble by himself. It’s so funny when you pull the stats from that year and it’s like

    Most goals:Messi

    Most assists:Messi

    Most assists:Messi

    Most big chances created:Messi

    Most G/A:Messi

    Most dribbles:Messi

Most goals from outside the box:Messi

    Most freekick goals:Messi

    Most big chances missed:Suarez

  20. Yes, imo Messis most complete season, if we had a half decent backline there was a treble for the taking but unfortunately Pique and Alba were pretty much done at that point

  21. The defeat at Liverpool still hurts, the team play like a coward. Alba cried at half time is something unforgivable for Barca fans.

  22. My feelings toward it would be the same as my feelings toward the Game of Thrones series. Barca managed to grab infamy from the jaws of excellence.
