Eggs say Freilandhaltung but use code 2…

I bought this carton of eggs because they said in the carton that they were Freilandhaltung, however they are all marked with a 2 in their serial code (Bodenhaltung). How's is this legal/possible? Shouldn't my eggs either have a 1 in the code or be advertised as Bodenhaltung? All the eggs have a 2 so I don't think it's a "one egg mistake".

  1. The rightmost egg says 1.

I don’t think the mix of egg types is intentional.

Maybe another customer switched them out.

If it’s very important to you, make sure to check the eggs before you buy them. It’s good practice anyway in case one is broken.

Should you spot this irregularity again, point it out to the staff while you’re still there.

  2. Ever heard of happy chickens out in the open and on the grassy floor. I think it’s correct that both Bodenhaltung outside is possible. The chicken is not suspended in free air.
