The lough

Took this photo yesterday at Lough neagh antrim. Crazy how clear the water is. Considering just a couple weeks ago it was covered in algae. Anyone know if it happened naturally or of there was chemicals or something used to clear it?

  1. Theres a good YouTube video put up lately on the current status of lough neagh

    https://youtu.be/HXT1yMD2kZA?si=ErXQEy4Hy8uSZZPr

Give this a watch and it will explain it all in decent detail but not in an overly scientific or over whelming way.

Basically it’s here to stay – it might look clear where you are but zoom out the overall lough is fucked.

The video mentions also that if all pollution was to stop today it would take 40 years to reach a good standard again

  2. They’ve been able to repurpose q tips originally designed for Poots and are able to deploy these from boats and effectively clean small but not insignificant stretches of the lough.
