TIL that since the inception of a single national police service in Scotland in 2013, all the 605 homicides committed have either had convictions or arrests made and are awaiting formal completion through the courts.

  1. So, this statistic is from last year in a story about historically low murder rates in Scotland, but I thought it was startling that there are no unsolved murder cases since the formation of Police Scotland – although it may actually go back beyond 2013 for all I know.

  2. Yes it seems murders are just about the only thing the police do reasonably well on, fair play.

Add to that it’s usually junkies up to antics or occasional spouse/partner murders, maybe a small amount of gangland murder as well, I’m guessing in most of these cases the murderer and victim are known to each other.

  3. That is interesting. Certainly seems positive, would be good to delve into the role the combined police service has played in that.
