After a lot of hard work and battling with the weather, we finally turned our back “garden” into our own little oasis.

I know there’s a lot of folks who are against fake grass. The thing is, under the thin layer of concrete, there were flag stones and tiles. Under those, there was a ton of dirt and rubble. This was the better option.

  1. How deep a layer of soil do you actually need to put grass down? I honesty don’t know.

It certainly looks much nicer than it did, regardless.

  2. That’s awesome! Well done indeed.

Though initially I laughed as you see the headline and then the first photo. So just thought, well congratulations!

BTW I’m on a mobile phone. Unless you click on the photo it doesn’t seem like there are more shots

  3. Does that mean you’re going to charge people £350 just to stand in it? 😉

Sorry, couldn’t resist, looks great and hope you get many years of pleasure out of it!

  4. Its lovely, did you debate taking out the concrete and putting in some real grass, or jsut go with the synthethic form the start ?

I assume your gate opens onto a small laneway for the bins to go out ?

  5. I think, this is the one occasion where fake grass is forgivable. It’s when people tear up a perfectly good lawn to replace it with the fake stuff that gets me.

  6. Oh well done! Have you got a little fire pit? Would be nice for the Autumn so you can enjoy your space for longer!

  7. Did something similar a couple of years ago, concrete plinth from where a big shed used to stand and put down astroturf to cover it. Actually looks pretty good considering.
With yours I’d stand a couple more pot plants to cosy it up, otherwise lovely.

  8. this is what fake grass is for, spaces where real grass wouldn’t grow, I think the hate is justified when it replaces a lawn, here it’s the sensible option. Looks fab

  9. nice, loved it when we got a smidge of garden in our little terrace back yard, difference it made to our mood just sitting out there and relaxing.

  10. It’s lovely! I agree, sometimes grass just isn’t going to work. You’d have had to put steps in to get down to the garden had you pulled up all the concrete and rubble.

I’m busy doing my garden and it’s coming along. Got some LED netting to put up and I’ve almost reclaimed my rockery. Some of our fence got nicked…so that’s replaced. My dogs are a lot happier with a garden they can actually play in.

  11. I thought the first picture was the finished result and thought “uh, I don’t hate it.” Nice little adventure playground in the back there for the kids.

  12. This looks so good! Love it. Agreed with the other commenter who said that THIS is when you use fake grass. Hope you enjoy your lovely new space!
