  1. **What if Turkey had first-past-the-post voting?**

Turkey currently uses D’Hondt Method to allocate seats in its parliament. Turkey has 81 administrative provinces and 89 electoral districts since larger provinces like istanbul, Ankara and izmir are split into two or more districts. Since FPTP makes any threshold for entry to the parliament useless, the current coalitions probably wouldn’t exist.

In the parliamentary elections of 2023 AKP got 35.61%, CHP got 25.33%, and YSP got 8.82% of all votes; with FPTP method, they got 70%, 18.5% and 11.5% of the seats, respectively.

    **What does a 420-seat-majority mean?**

Grand National Assembly of Turkey requires 400 MPs to pass a constitutional amendment or impeach the President, which is the highest threshold for any parliamentary procedure. This effectively gives AKP all the legislative power.

    **The Parties**

AKP is the current ruling party of Turkey and has been since 2003. It is a right-wing populist, Eurosceptic party previously affiliated to the ECR group in the EU Parliament.

CHP is the first party in Turkey, founded in 1924 by Turkey’s founding father Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. It is a social democratic, Pro-European, Kemalist party currently affiliated to the PES group in the EU Parliament. Currently the main opposition party of Turkey.

Currently known as the DEM Party, YSP, is a left-wing populist, Kurdish Nationalist, currently affiliated to the PES group in the EU Parliament.

  2. My Deuteranopia hates your color choice. If you use Red-Green next to each other at least make one brighter and one darker.
