Ode to David Knowles – presenter of Ukraine: The Latest podcast, who sadly passed over the weekend, aged 32. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Hi all,

I’m feeling really, really sad over this tonight. I have listened (basically non stop) to this podcast for 2 & a half years.

I have listened to it during good times for Ukraine, bad times for Ukraine, good times in my life, bad times in my life. David’s soothing voice has been the deliverance of bad news for Ukraine, good news for Ukraine. This empathy and curiosity during all his interviews has been completely visible. His relationships with his colleagues, namedly Francis & Dom has been beautiful and at times with lots of banter.

I somehow feel connected with these 3 individuals who’ve been a vital source of information about the war. Fantastic journalism and vital support. In his mind always seemingly πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦.

Anyway I have been reading all the tributes tonight and wanted to share some nice pics of David to add to the tributes. Remembering David and thinking of his family & friends.

Aware there’s a few tribute posts already, but this podcast has been part of my life. Walking to work or on the train. I have cried with them, laughed with them and now share in their pain.

Thank you David, Slava Ukraini. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

  1. That is very sad, so young and seemingly unexpected. I too enjoyed his podcasts, impressed that he was so good at it at only 32, i expected him to be much older.

  2. I listened to the pod this morning then after it finished the episode of Battlelines from last week I had downloaded started playing. 😒

  3. I’m still here in the early hours still can’t believe this has happened. No sleep tonight. I know Ukraine knows the loss of thousands of men/ women. Sorry. David will be missed so much.

To expand – I moved back home after suffering the loss of my brother, aged fairly similarly to David give or take. When I moved to my current city, for my sanity / MH sake I used to go down to the beach & listen to this podcast/ BBC Ukrainecast quietly. His voice became synonymous with my β€˜peaceful’ cathartic time thinking about those who were fighting in Ukraine who were a similar age to my brother. His voice was always soothing, empathetic and kind. We mourn his loss. A wonderful human.

What a fucking loss to humanity.

    (Trauma dump sorry)

  4. Such a good conveyor of information. A terrible loss, and far too soon. I’ve listened to Ukraine: The Latest since the beginning. Strength to Dom, Francis, and all the guests they’ve had on the show.

    Slava Ukraini

  5. Ukraine The Latest is an incredible source of information. So much respect to the team, and was gutted to hear about David. May he rest in peace.

  6. Covid increases the risk of heart attacks, so that might very well have been the cause after the massive Covid summer wave in the UK
