  1. Ofc he’s right , but he should’ve booked joão Pedro who did the same thing or even worse in tha same game

  2. What about the players who literally picked up the ball and took it away, no yellows for then was right too?

  3. I don’t think whether he’s right is the issue

    It’s consistency that’s the problem

But this is a problem in every match and across every game

    Just apply the rules consistently

  4. No sensible person will send off Rice for that incident. It was infuriating as he used all of his power to come up with that decision which was at full stretch.

  5. Whoa the referee was right to give a yellow card for a bookable offence? Who would’ve thought ey

  6. JP 100% should be cautioned in the first half. Rice’s second caution is meh, it happens heaps where players step in front of free kicks and no caution. He made the mistake of moving the ball, which made the referee make a decision.

Personally I think kicking the ball away in incidents like JP is just so meh, the game didn’t really get affected in pace of play, there are balls everywhere. In the Rice situation, even though the ball was moving, kicking the ball away when it’s about to be played is a fine thing to caution. But yeah, just stupid kicking the ball away when no one is near it does nothing. Meh, hard to police as there’s grey areas and stuff.

  7. Yep, 2nd yellow all day long. Some people don’t know the rules. Maybe Sky should do rules refresh before every game.

  8. Across 84 key match incidents looked at by the panel this season so far only 9 votes out of 420 possible votes have disagreed with the decision made.

The panel is a farce – regardless of what you think of this particular decision

  9. Nobody is debating that it was a yellow card foul. What fans are upset with is the lack of consistency and use of common sense.

  10. It was a second yellow. The issue is that the other team did the exact same thing but worse and didn’t get carded.

This keeps getting repeated over and over and over, but what people want is CONSISTENCY. If it’s a yellow, call it a yellow EVERY FUCKING TIME

  11. In the spirit of the game, it is simply anti-football to brandish a yellow card in this context.

There are instances where a player getting red carded is reflected in trivial and meaningless actions. The ref has a poor contextual understanding if he sends off a player for this. Especially after the ball was kicked at him, as he was walking away. Very poor officiating.

And a panel that backs this up, is probably why the PGMOL isn’t improving!!

  12. Not sure what the issue is. It’s a yellow card. You can argue consistency if you like and you’d have a point, but it’s still a yellow and Rice is experienced enough to know better.

  13. If the rules are going to be applied inconsistently then I’ll never understand why we can’t give out cards retroactively.

  14. If it’s the right decision, we can expect a lot more yellow cards in all games. The slightest touch of the ball is still a touch, fair enough. No doubt everyone will agree when their players are booked.

  15. Extraordinary decision, if he didn’t move the ball he would have been picking it out of his arse.

  16. What the panel won’t admit is that Kavanagh failed to send off 2 other players based on this exact law in the exact same game

  17. If this happened to the team anyone defending this decision supports, they would be livid. It was a nonsense decision.

But instead everytime we see dodgy decisions, strange calls, or inconsistent refereeing, everyone just piles on with shitty banter takes, and it completely lets the officials off the hook.

We could actually put pressure on them to improve the standards of refereeing but instead people just think “lol Arsenal/Liverpool/Wolves” and then cry when it’s their team.

  18. Why didn’t Joao Pedro get a yellow then? Also, fuck the “independent” body of refs. It’s like a nazi tribunal held the Nurenberg Trials.

  19. Imagine getting pressed over a game where some people kick a ball around, with the aim of kicking said ball into a net.

  20. Ultimately, all I need is for the ‘letter of the law/correct decision folk to explain

A- When Veltman rolled the ball into Rice while he was retreating, presuming Rice didn’t poke the ball, why was he trying to take a ‘quick’ free kick that would just be blasted straight into Rices back. Presuming he was aiming for the ball of course (he wasn’t)

B- If his intention was to take a free kick, why did he roll the ball into the back of Rice instead of into space where he could actually play the pass? He rolled it to the only spot it was guaranteed to be blocked and not through anything Rice was doing. Rice can’t teleport, he was already retreating, and there’s no directive you have to sprint as fast as you can away from where a free kick will be taken. The only reason it’s near Rice is because of Veltman.

C- As the wide shot showed, vwho on earth was Veltman supposedly blasting this quick free kick to with every Brighton player in their own half? 😂 The Arsenal goalkeeper?

  21. Have less of an issue with the yellow card for Rice (probably just about warranted) and more of an issue with Veltman not getting a red for violent conduct. Love to see someone justify that he was trying to play a legit pass to a teammate there. Saw an opportunity to smash Rice in the leg and took it. Thug

  22. Arsenal fans are so bitter! There fan base is so annoying. Super glad they can’t win the premier league because they would t shut up about it for the next 30 years!

  23. Duh. At this point i think these constant theatricts are part of Arsenals strategy of subtly influencing refs to be more lenient with them. Only explanation i have for this constant whining
