Important Brige over the river Elbe in Dresden collapsed

In the German city of Dresden, a bridge over the Elbe River has collapsed. As far as we know, no one was injured. It concerns the part of the bridge for cyclists, pedestrians and trams. Over a length of about 100 meters is a bridge section in the water. The part on which cars drive has not collapsed.

  1. The delays in the tram schedule due to the interrupted tracks are not significantly higher than average

  2. Dresdner here, old bridge, not yet renovated part of the bridge collapsed. Could be because of extreme hot weather to extreme cold weather in the span of a day, that gave it the push, but noone knows yet. Several trams rerouted, no one injured as far as we know.

  3. My money is on some 98 year old barry suffering from dementia taking his plane on another bombing run.

  4. To be fair it’s been in pretty bad shape since Feb 1945. Amazing it still held up for this long! That’s German engineering if you ask me

  5. Actually it only concerns the part for trams and nothing else. Fußgängers and bikers wouldnt have a problem but the whole bridge is blocked now by the Autoritäten

  6. Well, in my experience, we have a pretty bad track record when it comes to actually maintaining and repairing bridges. So i’m not surprised this happened at all.
