  1. >That’s largely driven by California’s decision to lower the rates utilities pay to residents who sell them excess power from new home solar systems, according to the report.

CA was moving very well with incentives for residential solar. I am not sure why Newsom is ignoring this problem, but he is silent.

In my neighborhood there are three 6+ KW systems tested and ready – but permitting has taken almost a year. Two of the systems has had multiple signs as inspectors get what they want without showing the legal requirement.

  2. Residential installations are down, but the article fails to mention that residential is only 10% of the installed capacity and utility scale continues to grow.

It mentions NEM3.0 as a cause, and this is correct, but it doesn’t mention the *extremely* dishonest sales practices of the door knockers across the country, or the bankruptcy of multiple of the sales driven residential install companies. Basically, consumers have no idea what they are buying, and the installation is financed by selling packages of power purchase agreements on Wall Street as a security, so there is minimal incentive to offer a fair price or do quality work.

  3. We were all set to install residential solar when our utility blocked it, saying there was too much residential solar already and they didn’t have capacity. And offered that we could pay $1M to upgrade their substation if we wanted to proceed.
