The fight for equal rights in Pakistan | DW Documentary

In midst of the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan, a girl is born. Little Narjis is deaf. Her mother Aniqa Bano had no previous knowledge of the disability, because affected children are often hidden away, due to shame. But not Narjis.

16 years later, Narjis reads the diaries of her mother Aniqa. In them, Aniqa describes the fight for her daughter’s right to be seen and recognized as a human being. In Pakistan, disabled children are often not even given a name. Mother and daughter take viewers along on a journey through the region of Baltistan, where Aniqa opened a school and a home for the deaf. Thanks to these places, local deaf children learn about their personal rights and can access education, ultimately giving them the chance to lead a self-determined life.

  1. DW making hit pieces like this on third world countries all the while ignoring the imminent banning of AFD party
Ignoring the migrant crisis and helping the establishment keep on with their plan

  2. Women in the middle east: WE WANT EQUAL RIGHTS.

Women in Europe: LET IN ALL OF THOSE MUSLIM MEN.

Alligator and chickens cant survive in the same enclosure, at some point, one is going to dominate and subjugate the other. Western naivety is a blessing, better buy you burka.

  3. I believe in equal rights for everyone. What about equal rights for women in Gaza, DW? How about Saudi Arabia? How about many countries in Africa? DW expends far too much energy and resources criticizing Western civilization because it's politically correct and there are no consequences. Try criticizing most of the truly authoritarian governments in the world and tell us how that works out for you. The Western media is cowardly and pathetic.

  4. I- Intelligence/Integrity
    S- Statistics/Sociology/Sovereignty
    L- Logic/Love
    A- Arts/Anthropology
    M- Maths/Medicine/Meditation

You just name it – It has everything, that's why the whole world is paying the phakking price for this peaceful community, be it Germany, Belgium, UK, France, Europe or America or Asia 😂😂😂

  5. wow the place you showed in the beginning is the area were I have been living since 2006
It's Sundus area located near Indus River Skardu
And the institution you show is the Allama Iqbal Open University campus

  6. In the name of freedom and equal rights, the western exploited women like nobody else…
We saw western hypocrisy in Gaza and Palestine..
Therefore western media should keep their equality to themselves

  7. Hats off to the foundation working for Specially abled children, I'm so happy for the management trying hard to make their education possible in the Baltistan Region.
Thank you DW for this wonderful documentary ❤.
How can I contact the foundation?

  8. I can't even imagine how it feels to not be able to communicate, let alone not having a feeling of identity and being discriminated by your own parents for something you have no control over. It's so important that we look outside of our own world and the things we take for granted every day and help those who aren't that lucky. Thank you for making this documentary and giving this cause a voice. 🙏

  9. Why These western states wanted to keep Posing their Values on other countries They first Looked into the society then they find Where is loopholes To engage with them and influence them We are with you U are living miserable lives u don't deserve this…….Then they started there real ambitions to make peoples agenda against there society and state laws They exploited it just to keep that country on there Slave labor list …Every time they came to every country of globe …freedom sovereignts was their main slogans We should never forget What happened in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 🇮🇶 iraq Libya 🇱🇾 Vietnam 🇻🇳 japan 🇯🇵 Syria 🇸🇾 Africa …..Americans gave freedom to that countries go and see with ur own eyes….. They are giving freedom to congo citizens but getting Billions of resources and from that money they gave them USAID and they become Savior of mankind .it's ridiculous absolutely disgusting Whenever they say something like that Never let them manipulate you never give them chance to Do the same they in past

  10. But schools do not exist in deserts, sure. Second, the inequality gaps in America are far higher and unrecorded than here. Women are mistreated in West, face discrimination and inequality in pay and income. First address your issues then document our life in Pakistan.

  11. I resonate with this story a lot. I myself entered the hearing world at 5 y.o. with good speech therapy and a voracious learning appetite, I do good. Hamdillah!
