Hi, this is a first world problem but it surprised me – I bought a ticket for a train without seat reservation. I sat down on an empty seat with no reservation showing on the display and tried to check in. This is not possible because I don’t have a reservation according to the DB app. However, when I pretend to book a new ticket and select a seat, this seat is available and has not been reserved by anyone else. So why can’t I check in? I’m just curious to know how this works.
