  1. Makes sense. Earn your money here and utilise all the services that the tax money pays for and provides a society where you can safely do business. Ditch country because you earned it all off your own back, never relying on anyone or asking for anything.

  2. The thing about rich people is that there’s no shortage of opportunities for them. It’s all very well saying “tax the rich”, but as soon as the tax becomes markedly higher than they would need to pay elsewhere, they will just go elsewhere and pay less tax. When they are gone, the amount you can tax them goes from quite a lot of money to no money at all.

  3. >But now that Labour are in power, he says he is ‘not prepared’ to give up £6m to the treasury in inheritance tax on his property when he dies.

At no point does the article mention £120 million of taxes, it’s only in the headline, nor does it give a sum of each tax he’d pay that would total that amount. It just says £6 million for inheritance tax

    >Mr Mullins, who is a high-profile supporter of Nigel Farage and Reform UK said he wants to have “no assets in the UK whatsoever” and intends on not paying tax next year as he leaves the country.

So whether he leaves or not, he won’t pay any taxes either way. Why are we supposed to care?

    >The 71-year-old, who sold his firm for £145million in 2021, said he will invest his money into property in Spain ad Dubai

Correct me if I’m wrong, but a sale in 2021 should have no relevance to taxes for this financial year

  4. Nothing against plumbers, but how does one get to be a millionaire? It’s not like there’s some innovative way you can change a tap or install a bog in 1/10 the time it takes anyone else. And how many exorbitant call outs can you do in a day?

Especially one who looks like Spitting Image puppet of a Gerry Anderson character.

  5. Amazon and Azure charge “egress fees” when you pull data out of their systems. This locks people in to their platforms.

Worried about rich people leaving? Egress taxes.

Want to pull sterling out of the country? Sure, here is an eye watering tax… why don’t you reconsider whether you can really make your money in the same way “anywhere” without the rest of the country and its support systems.

  6. Only in Britain would we manage to demonise someone who became a self made success and contributed 120m to society – what exactly do people want here

  7. The problem is; the UK just isn’t a nice place to live, it’s not safe, it’s schools aren’t great, and the NHS is terrible but strangles any private options I’m growing to a point where they can only provide limited healthcare.( NHS needs to be sorted imo I don’t think private is the way to go, just making the point that guys like him will be able to get much better care abroad, for himself and his family).l and immigration seems completely out of control.

But the worst part? Most of these problems won’t change, most, it’s too late to change and it feels we are only now coming close to the point where we can have an honest conversation about these issues let alone tackle them. We are at the discussion phase of a problem that has grown to a point where I really don’t think it can be fixed.

The best part of the UK was London and it’s increasingly shit too. For reasons that are obvious to everyone.

There are just better options than the UK and if you can, for god sake get out. I really can’t blame him. I want my children to have the best life possible, and I don’t won’t them to go down with this ship. I honestly can’t blame the guy.

  8. The fact that any self respecting news company allows this guy to spout his nonsense shows how much credibility they have. This guy has reaped the rewards of this country and now someone is in power who might affect his bottom line, whilst still one of the richest in the country he now wants out. Good riddance and good luck earning your money as a Rod Stewart lookalike.

  9. > The 71-year-old, who sold his firm for £145million in 2021, said he will invest his money into property in Spain and Dubai

Did Spain’s socialist government and wealth tax not put him off? Or is it just that he doesn’t like paying tax in the UK?

  10. Bye then. Enjoy Spain and Dubai. Presumably he will also forfeit his rights to have a UK pension and never expect NHS treatment too given that he doesn’t want to pay his share?

The property will, of course, remain in the UK and someone else who is prepared to pay in will get to own it. This will be better.

  11. I’d be pissed too. Imagine paying that much income tax, on top of the fortune in additional taxes he pays too by the way of VAT, vehicle tax, council tax etc and still seeing how inefficient the country is run and how high poverty rates are.

If you’re going to pay your way and be legit you should see benefit around you for doing so. Paying £120m in income tax and seeing the government piss away billions on the HS2 embezzlement scheme would piss me off enough to never come back

  12. Weird that it took his lawyers so long. He said he had them looking to sort out a permanent residency back in 2021?

    >”Another big move ahead is securing a permanent home in Spain. He’s got his lawyers working on securing him dual citizenship so he – a firm Remainer – can enjoy life on the Costa regardless of what Brexit throws at him. He has his eye on building his property portfolio down the coast. The next stop? “It’s got to be Marbella doesn’t it?”

  13. If the gap between rich and poor wasnt widening every year this wouldn’t be the problem, why can’t rich people understand if you pay shit wages and keep all the money at the top then of course you will need to shoulder the tax burden.

  14. I don’t personally like Mullins but those with socialist tendency should take careful note. He is not alone.

Unless you are prepared to introduce draconian capital controls (and in so doing, wreck the economy overnight), then as you increase taxes people react to reduce their exposure and rich people generally have more scope than most to avoid or reduce the impact, in his case to nil.

So watch what you wish for when baying for huge tax increases to fund train drivers wage increases.

  15. Fuck this guy and any other fucker threatening to leave the country. Help him on his way, throw him out along with the rest of this vampiric class of undead soulless lumps of meat.

  16. He has a point…

“Mr Mullins, who is a high-profile supporter of Nigel Farage and Reform UK…”

Oh… nothing to see here, move along.

  17. So… seems like he was always planning this and now that Labour is in power, despite not changing any rules on inheritance tax, he’s decided to frame it about Labour rather than his own long-term choices.
