Smoking tobacco should be illegal. Its addictive, it leads directly to 7 million deaths every year around the world and you can ingest nicotine in many other safe ways.
I cant eat a weed cookie because of health reasons but my nan can smoke herself into an early grave because? Tax income?

It’s called stealth tax, it’s just a way of raising taxes on poorer people without outright saying it. I could understand if the revenue was ring fenced for NHS costs & smoking cessation but it’s used as general revenue.
Good, the tax on that will go towards the NHS looking after you and your lung cancer. That’s literally the point of them being expensive
I was abroad recently and it was 5 euro for a pack of 20 marlboro 100s from a vending machine. Nearly started smoking again.
Should be minimum pricing, £30 per pack.

Its all too easy for non smokers to say its a choice and you just need to stop, but its not as simple as just putting them down. I stopped years ago and i still crave cigarettes. Its far too easy to get in with the wrong crowd as a teenager and end up having a pack over the course of a couple of weeks and before you know it, you’re hooked.
Making them too expensive will certainly stop some people, but most will skip meals to get another pack if it comes to it.
The whole intention is to get you to stop smoking. Start going on day trips to Belgium and stock up if you don’t wanna pay, I quit after my 30g of American spirit reached £24
Started vaping as smoking was costing a fortune. Only costs about £25 but that is for the month.
