  1. With James and Gusto still out with injury, yeah maybe the healthy English international fullback could play a little bit of… fullback?

The door is open to it I guess.

  2. The drama this club circulates in, is so entertaining.

Just waiting for Todd to claim they’re eating dogs at the Etihad.

  3. never understood maresca’s stand on chilwell from the get go.

in fact, i never seem to like anyting that comes out of maresca’s mouth loll. Has he ever said any good thing in the press?

  4. A bit of an editorialized title, because it doesn’t put into perspective the fact that since Chilwell never found a transfer, there’s basically a free registration slot for him (since practically 90% of the squad is u21 anyways) and anyone who is registered always has a chance to play.

Still incredibly unlikely Chilwell plays, unless something catastrophic occurs at LB. Veiga and Cucurella are evidently rated above him and Chilwell lacks the tactical flexibility like the two. He isn’t good enough to join the midfield as an inverting fullback, and he isn’t good enough to act as a wide centerback for the RB to join the midfield instead. He’s strictly an overlapping fullback, moreso a wingback – and there’s just no spot for that

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that Maresca has chose to utilize CBs at LB as alternative to Cucurella + Veiga (e.g. Colwill and Badiashile) – that should put into perspective how far Chilwell is from getting minutes again.

  5. This is bollocks. Chilwell was a fantastic player when he was at Leicester & before the Juventus injury was world class at Chelsea. Assuming he is fit (a big assumption, I know), we are being told that all of a sudden, he’s no good because he’s an attacking left back who overlaps?

The irony is Cucurella’s ONLY consistent form came with Spain in the Euros when he played as an overlapping left back.

This is just about the money

If they don’t want to pay him 200k a week, just admit it and get him a transfer/loan. But not playing him at all is stupid, reduces his value and is just insulting
