  1. Just to give this some context for non-motorsport fans: it was expected that drivers would need to change tires twice during this race. Leclerc, running in 3rd with worse pace than the leaders, decided to gamble on taking his 2nd set of tires long and skipping that second pit stop (which causes a total time loss of ~20 seconds). F1 tires tend to fall off pretty intensely after a certain point, so what’s really remarkable in this graph is his consistency from lap ~35 to the end, where he’s running laps consistently within +/- 0.2 seconds (on a ~1:23ish long lap). This is frankly *ridiculous*, and he’s doing it on a tire that’s supposed to be dying rapidly while getting caught at over a second a lap by the 2nd-place car behind him. Genuinely one of the best individual race performances most of us fans have seen in a while.
