Walmart: 2.79% Amazon: 22.68%
The world is getting poorer, I guess.
One of the issues comparing these two is that Amazon had a lot of non-retail revenue streams. An apples to apples would be their world wide commerce sales, which I think includes prime, but excluded AWS and other ancillary businesses. It’s impressive growth either way, but AWS has been huge for Amazon on top and bottom line, they use the cash flow to invest in the retail business / prime. Walmart has stated some equivalent non-retail businesses but they’re still small per their filings.
Walmart has also offloaded some multi billion dollar international businesses over the last few years which are a headwind to their revenue compares.
This is also revenue, GMV might be more interesting.
How does Walmart make so much damn money, I haven’t stepped in a Walmart in like 6 years
