  1. *Vipera berus*, or the common adder. The UK’s only venomous snake.

    Beautiful thing – I haven’t seen one since I was a kid.

  2. Beautiful Adder! I see lots of Grass snakes but I’ve only ever seen one Adder, and it’s not for the want of trying either!

  3. I’m not scared of snakes but I think this would give me quite a fright if I stumbled upon it

  4. Hey – you got the head! I’ve seen adders a few times, and every time it’s been the tail, vanishing into the undergrowth.

    Great shot!

  5. My cat once caught a snake. No idea how, no idea when. Got back and there was a near-dead snake lying next to my cat.

  6. I saw a snake swimming in the little river at Hughenden Manor. (High Wycombe / bucks) I thought I was high. I haven’t seen a native snake before or since.

  7. An Adder as well! Lovely! I’ve only ever seen one, briefly as one of the people I was with wailed like a wild banshee at first sight of it and it snuck off into the bushes… 🙄

  8. I used to see a few around a village called Storrington, the Warren there is full of British wildlife.

  9. Was bitten by one whilst walking the dog, red lumps up my arms and legs itchy as fuck, a rash from my ankle where I was bitten up my right leg that was leaking puss, both feet were swollen like bricks and completely square.

Funny thing is I didn’t feel it, my legs started tingling and we found 2 fang marks on my ankle. I couldn’t walk for a week and a half and was pretty much housebound hobbling along.
