  1. Allan Border has been asking for a brand new Olympic stadium which becomes the main cricket/AFL venue post-Olympics while the Gabba is demolished for housing. That way, the Gabba can have one final hurrah by hosting Olympics cricket along with the Carrara Stadium at Gold Coast.

  2. The Aussies (or maybe just their Labour Governments) don’t seem to know how to run multi sports events anymore. Victoria would rather give up the Commonwealth games entirely instead of using existing Melbourne venues when costs to build all those shiny new stadiums in the hinterlands ballooned.

Then in Brisbane you have the Gabba that everyone involved says it needs replacing sooner than later, but they’ll let it rot and move the core sport of the Olympic games to an oversized high school stadium just to say they didn’t spend money on the olympics. Of course, they’ll just drop all those billions on a new stadium after the games when the scrutiny of the world fades away and the taxpayers will end up spending even more due to inflation.

Here’s the thing, a developer has offered to [build a proper sized stadium himself](https://architectureau.com/articles/design-alliance-unveils-bold-proposal-for-brisbane-2032-olympic-stadium/) with all private funds. Yet the offer was shot down without even a look because “Oh the Olympic stadium needs to be publicly funded”. Pick a Lane
