I’m no military strategist but surely an MBT outside of NATO would be a better benchmark?
So they are just upgrading the ones we have not actually building new ones
This ain’t really news, challenger 3 is just an amalgamation of challenger 2 upgrade packs the main thing is swapping out the rifled gun for a 120mm smoothbore that can use nato rounds.
Unless something goes wrong (and we end up against the Germans again) all this will be called upon to fight is things like we are seeing in Ukraine, T85/T90 – it’s more than capable of fighting those as we see Challenger 2 is.
We’re a relatively small island nation who expects to fight under a combined military with our allies its better for us to invest into air and sea where we can have a presence helping to support our allies and neighbours and keep a small professional land force than to have super tanks and millions in a standing army.
Lovely, – shame that the war in Ukraine has shown that tanks are no longer relevant.
