Gundogan gives merit to Xavi’s last season: “Maybe people only think we didn’t win anything last season. But if you watch how we played, we made 85 points against a very difficult Madrid, only 3 less than when Barca won the league.” – MARCA.

  1. The 88 points were already an underperformance. I think we lost twice and drew five times before the title decider. We should have had 90+ points easily and should have fought harder for the defensive record. I hate this “good enough” attitude. It pursued us the season after, and the team stagnated and even regressed in some aspects.

  2. Until we win again the Liga or at least get over 88 points, Xavi will still be the best coach we had last 5 seasons.

  3. Real made 7 points more than barca did when they won any how you look at it real got better and barca got worse.

  4. This doesn’t mean Xavi didn’t do some things wrong, I missed more consistent intensity like Flick has proved we were capable of showing so far. Team relaxed at some times which was not good at all.

But no manager is perfect. Flick also did some things wrong at the Germany NT. Guardiola also did some things wrong in his first 4 years at City that gave him consistently bad UCL failures.

If we don’t recognize how terribly effective Xavi was as a manager and that his results are a miracle nearly impossible to equal for most managers, then whatever Flick does that is not winning a sextuple won’t be recognized either, and we will keep burning good managers just because they don’t win sextuples every season.
