  1. Oh wow, is this like when you tell Bazza and Shazza at the pub that St George was Turkish

  2. But his name is Karel de Grote, he’s clearly from the swamp,

  3. Almost all historians agreed he was born in Belgium just like his ancestors were.

Germany and France was just conquered territory by the belgian franks and thus created modern Europe.

  4. What if

    Idk

He was neither since both Germany AND France didnt even existed at the time?

  5. Charlemagne is German even though he conquered Germany. Makes sense.

  6. Come to the basque country again bitch, we will sing again *La Chanson de Roland*

  7. Big Chazza was born in Stoke-on-Trent and he was an Englishman through and through

  8. Sachsenkiller Kalle was a bloody Franke. That’s all there is to it. You wouldn’t call Caesar an Italian, Jesus an Israeli or N’Tok, Slayer of Krainak, a Bonnsar. It would be a misdemeanor in the eyes of the Court of Temporal Consistency.

  9. he was also the mayor of PARIS’ s grandson, and son of the King of the FRANks, whose birth place is debated (with 2 of the 3 most probable places being in modern FRANCe, the last one being in modern Belgium, but part of FRANCia back then). But I suppose it does not matter right? His mother was born in Laon, FRANCia, (modern FRANCE territory).

His exact birth place, like his father, is unknown and debated, but it was somewhere in FRANCia, either in modern FRANCE territory or Belgium territory.

He was king of the FRANks, just like his father.

I don’t see how there’s ever room to debate that he wasn’t German. He was GermanIC, like the rest of the Franks, but not German. The only other nation of today that can claim to be Charlemagne’s origin is Belgium, and, like I said, that’s only because of the unknown birthplace potentially being in modern Belgium (but it doesn’t change the fact that it was in FRANCia). But they at least have some room to claim part of that. You clearly don’t.

  10. I prefer to call him “Chuck Magnus” which would be a good name for a 70s American action hero, thinking about it.

  11. In Germany he is know under his real name: „Karl, der mit dem dicken Schwanz“

  12. Genocidal maniac anyway, so I say let the French have him. We already have no shortage of those.

  13. Not sure why you Germans want to claim him. He either massacred (the Saxons) or subdued (the Alemanns and Bavarians) your ancestors.

Btw the distinction between French and Frank is a rather recent one.

  14. Are the Frank’s not recognised as a Germanic tribe like the Anglo Saxons?

  15. he was called Carlos Magno so he was obviously portuguese
