Six people have been killed and 10 others are missing after record rainfall caused floods and landslides in parts of Japan’s Ishikawa prefecture.

1. This part of Japan is really isolated, and honestly pretty poor by Japanese standards. It’s the kind of place where the rest of Japan goes on a holiday to get away from city life. But that leaves it unprepared for things that more populated areas build infrastructure to deal with.
