The fight against exploitation of migrant workers in Italy | DW Documentary
Yvan Sagnet has been campaigning against the exploitation of migrant workers in Italy for years. His organization No Cap works to ensure fair conditions for laborers in the agricultural industry.
Originally from Cameroon, Yvan Sagnet himself was an agricultural worker in southern Italy. He went on to found the organization No Cap, which campaigns for fair wages and conditions in agriculture, and against criminal exploitation of migrant laborers.
Along with thousands of other migrants, Kausuu Kasseme from Gambia lives in the notorious Borgo Mezzanone ghetto, which lacks basic sanitary facilities. Twelve years ago, he was rescued crossing the Mediterranean in an overcrowded boat. But his hopes for a better life in Europe were soon dashed. As an agricultural laborer, he earns less than five euros an hour.
Italy is one of five EU countries that do not guarantee a minimum wage. Yvan Sagnet is working to change that. Tina Agbonyinmoe from Nigeria works in a company that’s been certified by No Cap, packaging organic strawberries destined for supermarkets in Germany and Denmark. One of Europe’s largest producers of organic strawberries, it offers workers fair conditions – and that’s largely thanks to Yvan Sagnet’s campaigning.
But soon Tina Agbonyinmoe’s contract will end and she’ll have to look for a new job. A single mother of two, she fears that she will have to work ten hours or more, for significantly less money.

Swahili..
Kwa Mustakabali Mwena
This is completely false and misinformed aligation. There is no exploitation of foreign workers in Germany in comparison to so many other parts of the world, especially in the Middle East. I am also an immigrant and find Germany one of the most fair places to work.
What's a No cap?
ITS NOT FAIR IF ITS NOT YOUR COUNTRY!
the fact that there are italians in the comments justifying whats going on is insane to me, considering that there are hundreds of thousands of Italian migrant in richer countries, one day those people will find a reason to look down on you and maybe you might become human then.
The pay in italy generally is bad even for degree holders . I learnt that 50 thousand italian youths are leaving the country every year for greener pasture in some countries where they will pay them well .
I would rather eat tree leaves than be exploited in a foreign country
😭😭😭😭😭
You said you need better life…for the past 12 years and this is your situation. Is that a better or worse life?
respect to this guy
i have a toilet but i choose to use a bucket
plumbing shouldnt be necessary
Had this happened in China it would be all over the news
Illegal immigration has always been a business
My friend (european) met a girl (chinese) in Australia. They wanted to stay longer in Australia and needed money, so they went to work illegally in a Chinese owned farm. He said working there was like slavery. Sometimes they got no salary, they had to work very hard. Basically expoitation of the illegal workers is happening everywhere in the world
Can someone help me i live in Italy but I've heard in Sweden they 34thousand euro to return to your country can someone help me i want to go back
This is crazy and I am italian🤢
Its looks like Africa
Shacks in Europe!
This is all true i myself a migrant who live in Italy amd work in different places for around 5 year's, seriously i myself went to Borgo this exact place i was so sad i couldn't believe and my heart goes out to all those people out there its really unexplainable and very poor poor living conditions, then i saw a young woman who was mentally ill i yope the situation gets better and wish everyone a better life THE JOURNEY CONTINUES 💪🏾✌🏾
Not a few doors down, "a few shacks away" 😡
A fair market and trade, equalisation using forex trading and having so much digital cash going in vain, it's just obvious that the world is just jealous, greedy and corrupt so 😅😂
GOD forbidden life. This is shameful, just to earn a living.
I hope they were not chastised after appearing in this documentary.
First day I been this place I get sickness almost week
Germany was screaming human rights for Qatar World cup but turning blind eye on exploitation in Europe.
Keep the entire African continent under poverty so that it supplies labour starved western countries to work under the most inhumane conditions, west has the luxury of speaking against trafficking and slavery but turn a blind eye to what's happening in their own backyard because it suits them
But what are guys doing there 😢living in such condition haibo be srs how can you leave your home land to live in such conditions
People ALWAYS forget what you give them, soon they will say that Europe is part of Africa, Isn't Europe the continent of the White People? Everyone should live and makes his continent better place for living …
So sad
