“A manhunt has been launched after a woman was allegedly raped at the bottom of an ASDA car park slope.
The horrific incident happened at around 4am on Sunday (September 22) at the Eastgate Centre in Basildon. The man involved is described as being black, has a stocky build, a shaven head and was wearing a black top and trousers at the time.
Essex Police is appealing for witnesses, and they have confirmed that the female victim is being supported by specialists officers and agencies. The “Major Crime” team are also now involved in the investigation.

Detective Inspector Stewart Eastbrook said: “Incidents like this are rare but I know this will cause concern for anyone who lives or works in the area and understand that concern. There will be an increased visible presence in the area and specialist detectives and staff are working tirelessly to identify the man responsible.
“I need anyone who was in the area between 4am and 8am on Sunday and saw a man matching this description to contact us. Please also check your dash cams if you have them.”
Raise the sentences on sexual assaults, it is sickening to see this and crimes of a similar nature on a daily basis. People who commit these crimes destroy lives and they are causing life long trauma.
