He looked really good in all games he played for us. Young player who can only get better especially with Pep. Could he be a solution for our problem? I think so. What do you guys think?

  1. Walker Stones Ake Akanji Gvuarvdiol.

If stones get injured let Akanji do the pivot.

And I’m not forgetting about Rico, he’d be a straight sub for Walker.

  2. I wouldn’t use the word replace. I am hoping he is able to get big time experience this season tho. Still going to need to bring someone in on transfer for depth.

  3. It’s just been confirmed on the City website that Rodri has a damaged ligament in his knee. It’s not known how long he will be out of action for yet

  4. No one in world football rn can replace Rodri. He is just one of one.

But I m sure, Pep will workout a solution to this huge setback and I for one, would love to see someone young like O’Reilly, step up to the ocassion, if Pep so decides, and be part of that solution although, he is more of an attack oriented midfielder unlike Rodri. Fingers crossed. Let’s see how the upcoming team compositions and formations look like. Hoping for Rodri’s fast and complete recovery.

  5. Look, he’s talented but let’s be honest he can’t. Our best option is a double pivot (any one of Rico, stones, akanji, kova, Bernardo) which shows how good Rodri is that we need two people to cover him.

  6. It was obvious that he was there for connecting the dots and for rodri’s missing defensive cover while stones did the intricate stuff but if he is able to get a brain like wright why not

  7. Looking at the game yesterday, O’Reilly gave me a Kalvin Philipps vibe instead of a rodri vibe.

I prefered Wright much more tbh

  8. Nah, he’s better forward in the midfield. Put a sitting midfielder in with him and he’s far more comfortable.

  9. we’ll play Bernardo in a deeper role to control matches. i think pep will value IQ and experience over size to replace Rodri.

  10. You mean Nico O’Rodri?

Realistically no. But this could help his development if it provides him more games

  11. That is an astronomical ask. Not a viable choice in the league or CL imo, maybe for cup games. Kova is going to be our 6 until Rodri is back. I’d be amazed if we bought anyone in the winter.

  12. Eventually yes. Right now? No. He’s still raw, getting him minutes is great and I hope it continues. But if you put him in a big game you’d know he isn’t ready.

I hope he keeps getting cup games, maybe even a UCL game here or there against Bratislava etc. But I don’t think we should rush him because of the Rodri injury.

  13. No one can replace Rodri. He had a skill set of 3-4 top players. If you get someone who is as good as one facet of Rodri’s game, they’re probably lacking in another facet that Rodri was good at.

  14. Rodri was playing at Valencia and Atletico Madrid before city. Even after that he wasn’t that good in the initial season. It takes atleast 2-3 years for anybody to play the Rodri role.

We should not think about Rodri role this season because Rodri is not there. Currently Rodri is the centre point of Pep’s tactic. Pep will find a new tactic without Rodri. We may lose some matches. Just be patient till December.

  15. O’Reilly looked alright last night but the situation with Rodri and it being an ‘interview’ type game for him definitely was on his mind, was a little bit wavy in Postioning but broke up attacks a couple of times and mostly progressive passing. He had a top Rodri-esque shot too which was unlucky not to go in ! He’s young so no pressure on him from me, it’ll be a team effort to fill the DM space now.
