NATO members shouldn't be getting involved in this war at all, Ukraine is not a NATO member nor a direct ally.
Its really obvious that all that the US, UK and other participants want is Ukraines rich lithium deposits (ehich they have already divided up, because guess what, this "aid" is not free) and to continue to sell arms in this conflict.

This is all a chess game.
Russia invaded what it perceived to be a weaker country. Overestimated ability to take over, but still made progress taking the east. Ukraine fought back with western support, but Russia couldnt push ukraine further back. West wants a win against putin, so they keep increasing what ukraine is allowed to do. Tanks, then jets, then patriot missiles, now considering firing into russia.
Russia and the West are playing a very delicate balancing act. This is just Putin's latest attempt to rebalance the scales to not favour the west and ukraine. This is him worried/scared – if ukraine is allowed to fire into ukraine, itll tip the battleground favour towards ukraine.
Putin is trying to send the message – if Ukraine is allowed to fire deep into russia and starts to, with western backing, we will use nukes. Whether or not he means it is anyone's guess.
Russia has the right to defend itself against NATO expansion & military aggression by all means at it's disposal. Belligerents in NATO need to pay heed to the warnings.
