US announces $8 billion in Ukraine aid | BBC News

Biden announced that the US will send $7.9bn (£5.9bn) worth of military aid to Ukraine in a surge of assistance as his presidency nears its end.

The aid, part of a $61bn package that passed Congress in April, includes additional Patriot air defence missiles and long-range munitions.

The weapons package will be approved through presidential drawdown authority and will pull from existing Pentagon supplies to deliver the arms more quickly.

Congressional Republicans blocked the Biden administration’s $61bn military package for months earlier this year, before ultimately relenting and passing the legislation in April. Before that, arms supplies to Ukraine had dried up for several month

The US has been the largest foreign donor to Ukraine, with $56bn provided for its defence to date.

As we pay our 2000 dollar a month rents for our 1 bedroom , basement apartments. “Ukraine is fighting Russia so we don’t have to.” 🥴🥴🥴 I’m pretty sure Russia will never invade America. BUT WHAT ABOUT POLAND???? AND NATO!! IF UKRAINE FALLS, RUSSIA WILL KEEP INVADING NATO COUNTRIES!! and then American troops will have to fight!   28. What would the value of the US Lend-Lease "support" of WW2 to Britain be in today's money compared with LOANS to Ukraine? Note that the COST of the Lease part of this arrangement with Britain was finally paid off in 2006!

I'm always amused with the fact that Russians (and apparently Ukrainians as well) have a strict aversion to using prepositions when speaking English…😂 Are there no prepositions in the Russian language? Is that how that works? But more importantly, if it is true that the Ukrainian Ambassador is working to elect a Democratic president, whilst it is entirely illegal and should not be tolerated (seriously, how would they feel if America began interfering in their elections?), I understand it, because they are in the middle of a literal existential crisis right now, and they know that the US is their biggest financial and military backer. If Donald Trump gets elected, basically their war is lost. Europe will not, and probably cannot support them to the extent that the US has done and can do, and they are beginning to lose their nerve and interest anyway. Without the US prodding and coaxing them along, no European countries other than the Baltic states and Poland would be as committed to supporting Ukraine as they are now. This is a fact. So if it is true that the Ukrainian Ambassador is working to secure a Democratic victory, I completely understand it. It's interesting that the Republican Party has no problem with Putin's interference with the election in their favour. They are so transparent as to warrant the famous quote by the great Sherlock Holmes: It's elementary.

  39. They will not get the $8 billion because it has to be passed through Congress. And I’m sure the American people have done said that there will be no more money for Ukraine. We have an election in less than 50 days a lot about to change.

The vast majority of well-meaning ordinary citizens and leaders of civilized nations, other than those deeply indoctrinated by tyrannical ideologies, will never tolerate the spread of “nations ruled by dictators who have no qualms about punishing their citizens‘ freedom by law, violating international law, and consuming their citizens’ lives like hot and cold water” on the planet.

  45. As an American I’m sick of this. You should see certain cities, you won’t believe that they are in America. Hospitals are closing everywhere, and corporations make your healthcare decisions, not your doctor. The infrastructure is collapsing, the roads are falling apart.

    But we have plenty of money for Ukraine and Israel.🤦🏻‍♂️

  47. For fk's sake, anyone cared to count all those big billions already? If they all put all those billions together, they could improve everybody lives on this planet 300 percent. I think all of those people who are in charge are definitely not in touch with reality and all I see is that they don't spend all of those money to achieve something good for anyone but themselves. 8 billion dollars is the full debt of an entire country.

  49. Harris my opinion:
    1. Free study.
    I would add areas where the city needs to expand and get voters.
    2. electric cars, solar and wind power plants.
    I will pay the interest from the electric car's American solar panels.
    3. $25000 housing for 1 family home.
    On the American house and windows.
    4. Citizenship for immigrants.
    Citizenship must pay $10,000 for a stateless family.

    American will introduce the 100% CLA around October 1st.
    Chinese banks: they will probably come with a suitcase of interest free money and that they will pay the tax but remove the tariff on solar panels etc. China will take over the US in one fell swoop. Or something worse!!!
