Papal Visit to Luxembourg and Belgium

After a welcome speech by the King, the Pope delivered a message to the nation in the presence of representatives of the established authorities, the Catholic Church, and other recognized religions in Belgium, civil society, and the diplomatic corps. Pope Francis will engage with students at the Catholic University of Louvain.

  2. On September 26, 2024, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium welcomed His Holiness Pope Francis at Melsbroek Air Base, northeast of Brussels. After a brief welcome ceremony, Pope Francis traveled to the Apostolic Nunciature, where he will reside during his stay in Belgium.

  3. On September 26, 2024, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, accompanied by Prime Minister Luc Frieden, welcomed His Holiness Pope Francis at Luxembourg Findel International Airport. Pope Francis is in Luxembourg for less than eight hours before flying to Belgium.

    During his one-day apostolic journey to Luxembourg, Pope Francis met with members of the Grand Ducal family at the Grand Ducal Palace.

    Among those present were Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie, Prince Charles, Prince Francois, Prince Felix, Princess Claire, Princess Amalia, Prince Liam, Prince Balthazar, Prince Louis, Prince Gabriel, Prince Noah, Princess Alexandra, Nicolas Bagory, and Prince Sebastien.
