I would rather someone put their waste in the correct bin of mine (ie cans in the recycling, poo bags in the refuse) than just chuck it in the street. However my bins are not somewhere that people walk past.
While I dont care if people use my bins its actually illegal in the uk
It’s actually illegal to use someone else’s bin without permission and is treated as trespassing or fly tipping depending on the circumstances. Personally, I’d be pretty pissed off about it, especially as dog walkers have made the conscious choice of buying an animal that requires you to clean up their shit. There are plenty of public bins to use, so regularly dumping it in someone else’s private bin is at best laziness, and at worst, a deliberate attempt at vandalism
I have a dog and rarely use my own bin for the poop bags as they do stink over time. I’ll make sure to use a public bin before we get home. I’ve had people use my bins on bin day which if it’s the correct bin I’m not fussed about. Often you get people dumping random stuff in a recycling bin which is stupid and irritates me.
I wouldn’t use another person’s bin to dispose of poo bags and trust me I have been tempted but it’s not really on.
Considering we’ve had amazon drivers put parcels in our general waste bins i’d be annoyed at people putting dog shit in our bin.
If people were putting so much stuff in my bin that I couldn’t get my own stuff in it, that would piss me off. I live in a busy town though and that’s never happened. I’m more than happy for people to put a doggie bag in the my bin, or a finished drinks can / bottle though. Most of the time I’d pick it up off the street and put in my bin anyway.
If it’s morning on him day I don’t mind. If it’s any other time, especially during summer, I really do.
They need to be careful about that open offer to put its “somewhere else”… also since when have we been referring to dog sh1t as litter?
If it ain’t your bin, don’t put it in.
It stanks, put it in your own damn bin or a public litter bin
To have someone who lets their dog shit on a concrete bridge every morning then doesn’t pick it up. Like if you’re gonna not pick up your dogs poop at least let them do it in some soil where it’ll do a little good
Own two dogs. Will carry my dogs waste to the nearest public bin, even if there’s a million wheelie bins on the way. End of the day, if the bag splits and somebody gets my dogs shit smeared up the inside of it, they’re going to be the ones that have to deal with it.
Love my dogs to bits, but my central mantra when I’m out and about with them is ‘my dogs are not your problem’, which a shocking amount of fellow dog owners I come across don’t seem to live by
my thoughts on this are if you own a dog it’s your responsibility. if you can’t cope with carrying bags of shit around until you find a correct bin or get home don’t have a dog
id rather it in my bin than on my drive (live right by a public footpath)
As an owner of both a dog and a bin, I feel adequately informed to comment. Dog does 90% of poops when we’re out, so they get bagged and put in dedicated dog poo bins for the most part or public bins.
Any ‘at home’ poops get double bagged into the waste bin, which then goes into the general waste wheely bin.
Never have I bagged and put anywhere else like a tree or someone else’s bin.
I used to keep my wheely bin outside in a row with others’ from our block of flats. Then the neighbours would have visitors who brought a dog and they’d dump their shit bags in my empty bin. That’s the worst, because I’ve either got to retrieve a bag ‘o’ shite from my bin by upending the thing or throw my rubbish bag on top of said shite (which I did do accidentally a couple of times), risking a poonami explosion at the bottom of the bin. Bin now stays in the shed unless it’s bin day!
It’s incredibly rude and the bags will stick to the bottom of a wheelie bin. The owners can stick it in a bin bag inside their own wheelie bin.
It’s not litter. Dogs don’t buy crisps. Let’s call it what it is and then this conversation gets a whole lot simpler.
It’s annoying. I’ve had to move our bin into the back garden as someone keeps walking up our driveway to put their dog muck in it. We have a dog ourselves but take it out with us to a dog bin. It’s so annoying and damned right rude.
You shouldn’t be putting anything in someone else’s bin.
Down in the SW if they find dog waste in your bin they won’t empty it, so I would be annoyed. They don’t even supply the bins we have to buy out own.
When I had a dog and there was no where to dispose of dog doo I would take it home with me and put it in a bin I specifically bought for dog doo and put it in there and when the bin was full I would take the bag out and tie it shut and put it in my general waste bin on bin day.
Take your shit home with you. Not my problem.
People need to be more responsible for their dogs. Take your shit home with you
Pick up after my dogs and drop it in the public bins. Would be nice if the council could put more about though. If I turn right and into the park there are a few bins dotted around you can head toward. If I turn left out to the football fields and the green there’s none at all, can walk for miles before you find a place to drop your bags off. Still I’d never drop them in some poor sods regular bin.
Technically illegal in the UK to drop your rubbish in someone elses bin without prior permission.
If it aint a public bin don’t put it in.
I wouldn’t even put them in my household waste bin, never mind a strangers.
It annoys me as the bin men don’t tip my bin so the bottom ends up with loads of little bags in there that I have to put in the bigger bags and I don’t feel I should have to do that as I don’t even have a dog
As a dog owner and a bin owner, it’s a dick move.
Absolutely not. I prefer my bin to be cleanish and not rancid, so will wash it every now and again. I definitely don’t want dog shit in there.
The only bins you should use are public dog poo bins or your own bin (I have a dog).
If you can’t handle carrying a poo bag, then don’t get a dog.
I learned this while staying in America for some months, not sure if it’s the same in the UK but it is also true for Norway. We don’t own our bins, we rent them where I live. So, while I would avoid it right after the bins were emptied, realistically I guess the whole ‘keep the streets clean’ thing overrides worrying about using someone else’s bin. I personally don’t care for my bins as I’d like trash to go in the bin instead of anywhere else.
I don’t have a dog, but everywhere I go there are bins specifically for dog waste. If someone was using my household bin for their dog’s poo, I’d be pretty annoyed about it too.
Very simple, put your dogs shit in your own bin.
No. Use public bins.
I’m not generally opposed to people using my bin when it’s out on the street if it means that litter won’t end up in the street.
However doggy bags are an exception to this as they have a tendency to work their way to the bottom of the bin and then stick to the floor so they don’t empty out with the rest of the rubbish. Which means sooner or later I’ve got to clean the dogshit out of my bin which I’m not so keen on doing
a shitty thing to do
Honestly I couldn’t care less if someone puts a tied bag of dog poo in my bin.
At least they’ve picked it up and found a bin for it, and it’s not like it takes up much space. There’s not many public bins around here either.
I’ve got 99 problems but dog poo in my bin ain’t one….
A bin is a bin. I’m happy for people to put dog litter or any litter in mine. I’d rather that than it be left in the street.
You choose to get a dog, you also choose to carry its shit until you find a suitable public bin or you get home. Do not make it other people’s problem
I’ve never even considered putting my dogs shit in someones wheelie bin
I wouldn’t have minded, my bin used to be full of poo bags anyway, one more wouldn’t make any difference. Fortunately, or unfortunately, they aren’t any more.
I put my dog litter (closed off and tied) in other people’s bins.
I would be ok if someone put their small rubbish and recycling while walking in my bin, rather they do that then throw them on the floor. I wish other people in my neighborhood thought the same though, I actually end up picking up other dog litter as well. People are disgusting and keep throwing shit on the floor.
Take your bin in like a normal person and I *can’t* throw my dog’s poo bags into it.
I was going to have a rant about dog owners leaving their shit in my bin (not that they do). But then I realised we own a cat that pretty much exclusively shits in the neighbour’s gardens.
I’d rather someone put a shit in my bin than leave it outside my house.
We live down a narrow lane so the wheelie bin is not picked up and tipped into the lorry. Instead the binmen come on foot with their own wheelie bin, empty the bins by hand into that and take it back to the lorry.
Not just dog shit bags but anything loose that’s been put in there has to be fetched out by me and bagged properly or it will just live in the bottom of the bin forever.
So yeah, it’s fucking annoying.
Most dog owners around here aren’t the smartest most considerate people.
If it’s not yours don’t use it. It’s really quite simple.
I don’t really care to be honest.
I see people saying:
“What if the bag splits and you get shit smeared on the inside of your bin?”
Literally how much time do you spend looking inside of your bin that this would be a problem? I open my wheelie for literally one second 2-3 times a week to chuck a bag of rubbish in it. I can deal with a whiff of shite for a grand total of 3 seconds a week.
