Remote control machine gun emplacements are cool until you gotta reload them.
Seems like an idea with potential; but probably only for specialized situations where it won’t need to fire for very long. Reloading it might be pretty problematic. If you could accurately aim it via thermal camera though, I could see it being really useful to expand area defense at night- especially if it could be elevated. I bet a pair of those mounted on top of something like a cherry-picker about 100 meters apart could create a pretty formidable barrier. Probably be great for ambushes too if concealed in bushes or wrecked vehicles along the side of the road.
What me aliens, what me orcs?
Is this one of the 29 NANUK remote weapons systems made by Rheinmetall Canada we donated?
Edit: Nope says those havent arrived yet
Reloading is not a problem, as its belt fed- you could technically link together infinite rounds… bigger problem would be “headspace and timing” @ IYKYK
Raises memories of the sentry guns from Aliens.
Israel does magical, wondrous, fuckin’ things with AI-assisted, robotically-controlled machine guns. May Ukraine be even more successful.
