This is like the guy who keeps confessing to killing JonBenet Ramsey. It's been proved he didn't. I think Madeline's parents gave their three babies something to make them sleep. They went to a restaurant to eat with friends. They did not lock the hotel room door and baby sitters were available at this hotel – they didn't get one. The hotel door was not visible from where they were eating. Once in a while one of the parents would walk to check on the kids, then come back to the table. I think they gave Madeline too much and it killed her. Tragic, but that simple.
