German heating system

I recently moved into a new apartment and I am not sure how the heating system works. I found this Viessman thermostat in the living room but I thought it is only for the shower since I have the viessman boiler in the kitchen and it works when I turn on the hot water. It’s pretty cold in the apartment right now and I want to know if this thermostat is for radiators as well. Cause in my previous apartment it was just central heating so I didn’t need to do anything special except turn on the radiator. So I’m afraid to touch it since I don’t know its purpose. Help!

  1. I don’t know exactly your setup, but it worked like this in my old apartment: The thermostat on the wall measured the room temperature and started the heating, once it dropped below the set temperature. Additionally, I also needed to open the radiators, so they could start heating. So if either system were turned off (thermostat on a cold temperature or radiator turned off) the heating would not work.

Maybe you will find a manual for your thermostat online or you could just ask your landlord how it works.

  2. It might be you have to switch the boiler into heating mode. Open your radiators and then you can regulate the room temperature with that thing.
