Van blocking cycle access

When I pointed to the men in the van that they were blocking the cycle path, one of them was kind enough to get out and threaten to kick my bike and run me over.

How would you deal with this? It happens often at this particular intersection (Linton Street and New North Road, N1), so I’m interested in making it happen less often.

  1. The only thing you can do is write to the council, every time it happens, with photos and reasons for why it’s a problem.

Eventually either you or the council will get bored and something will be done or it won’t.

  2. Cycling Mikey has made a career out of idiots like these.

Take a photo/video of the van, showing its number plate, and send it to the police. If they threaten you, make sure you get the threats on camera too.

  3. If you have the number plate and time, I’d write to the company explaining that one of their staff threatened you.

As for the actual cycle path, the best you can do is write to the council every time it happens. I’m sick of motorists thinking they can do what they want and then getting aggressive when called out.

  4. Report them to the police for threatening words and/or behaviour, then to the council for illegally obstructing the highway.

  5. Take photos and send it to the council every time it happens. Send photos to the company as well and report the fact that one of their staff threatened to run you over.

  6. A man in a van behaved in an extremely unprofessional manner towards you, a member of the public, and you never considered giving head office a call? If they have an e-mail address, send them a timeline of events with the photo attached. Verbally abusing a member of the public is not a good look for the company in question.

  7. yelp, google reviews, email to company with plate, number of offending vehicle/date/time/people

  8. A very scathing ‘review’ on Google. Those type of reviews really hurt businesses.

    But serves them right.

  9. I’d probably end up in a massive argument or fight with them. Not a sensible answer perhaps, but if someone threatens me with physical violence I do tend to call them out on it. Normally it ends up in an awkward stand off but I refuse to back down. Out of childish stubbornness I should point out, not because I’m actually tough.

  10. I could be mistaken but I do not see a solid white line. Without it, it’s not a mandatory cycle lane and therefore not illegal. Completely doesn’t excuse a white van bellend though. Ask the local for new lines.

  11. I just take photos including the license plate and report. There is one spot near me where there frequently is a car fully on the pavement across the accessible exit of a park. I can get by easy enough to just carry on, but it could be a challenge for a wheelchair user.

  12. Why the fuck is there a single yellow line across there? Fear that means it’s totally ok for them to park there

  13. Just go around it….its a minor inconvenience.

Learn to let go of the need to be annoyed and outraged by these minor problems that are part of modern life.

8 billion people on this planet, all in each others way.

Set yourself free from focusing on negative issues and spread love and happiness.

Or else remain locked in the mind prison of continual annoyance and outrage at events you cannot control.

The only thing you can control is yourself.

Choose happiness, Love and contentment. Its within your power to achieve.

    Peace out ❤️✌️

  14. GEM Environmental Building Services Ltd, it would be horrible if this appeared above your real site on Google wouldn’t it.
