This building in my town was the precursor to the NHS

Was grabbing a kebab in the building next door and thought I’d take a pic of this historic building next to it.

This was once home to the Medical Aid Society, which Aneurin Bevan took as the blueprint for the NHS.

  1. Wow. Are you allowed to go into the actual room where they would take patients and hit them on the head with a hammer?

  2. I thought it’s widely accepted that the NHS was based on the Cradle to the Grave system ran by the Great Western Railway based in Swindon.

  3. I know exactly where that is…I drove past it today in fact. What an amazing piece of history.

  4. I didn’t know anything at all about Nye Bevan until I saw the play, back in March. Incredible, and an incredible man to do what he did for us all by setting the NHS up

  5. Why do kebab shops always look so bloody cheap. They should be forced to at least make their signs look a bit smarter in lovely little villages.
