Thai zoo moves to patent image of viral baby hippo Moo Deng

A Thai zoo whose baby pygmy hippo Moo Deng has become a global sensation has moved to patent her image so it can benefit financially from the hippo’s popularity.

The director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Marongwit Chodchoi, said it took the step to prevent the animal from being commercialised by anyone but the zoo. Her name, which means ‘bouncy pork’, was the winning moniker in an online poll participated in by 20,000 people in August

  1. patent image of baby hippo…nonsense people. what about baby hippo fiona's pictures? is this just to prevent influencers from going there to take images of the baby hippo? effectively ensuring no visitors. dumb. and if its already viral means its in public domain. their lawyers not giving proper advice.
