Out for a stroll to the shops this morning I spotted this oddity around one of the neighbours houses.
What are cut up lemons placed around your house supposed to do?

  1. Lemons are supposed to keep spiders from coming into your house, although I don’t think they’re using them quite right.

  2. It’s just a lemon shaped rock…wait a minute, there’s a lemon behind that lemon shaped rock!

  3. It’s obvious isn’t it? They lead up to the door. It’s alemonentry, my dear Watson.

  4. Cat, foxes, spiders or some creature that these people don’t want on the gravel. I doubt lemons will work. If I left lemons outside to deter the many foxes round here, they’d thank me for the extra lunch. They eat any old scraps round here.

  5. Clearly it’s those lemon stealing whores!

Honestly, though, citrus is meant to be really unpleasant for cats and foxes, so they’re probably trying to stop the local tom from using their path as a litter tray.

  6. As the other guy said, it’s so stray cats don’t urinate on the walls.

Though my cat pushes the lemons to the side and takes a wee in the dracaena anyway, the hairy prick.

  7. It’s a lemon party.

Google it and you should see a brief rundown on what it is.

  8. And with that, a mighty cheer went up from the heroes of r/CasualUK.

They had banished the awful lemon tree forever…because it was haunted.

Now let’s all celebrate with a cool glass of turnip juice.

  9. This is Cave Johnson’s residence. Hopefully Life will be round to take the lemons back.

  10. This is called The Lemon House game, the natural escalation of The Lemon Shoulder game where you take the lemon out of your drink and place it on your mate’s shoulder to see how long it takes for him to notice.

  11. Foxes hate citrus, my guess is trying to deter them….. that or vampires, wait thats garlic, nevermind!

  12. It’s to scare away any rogue Mr Blobbies scrounging around at night. They have a natural fear of lemons

  13. Witches! It’s to hold back Witches!

    >The belief that witches dislike or avoid lemons can be traced to early European folklore. According to some traditions, lemons possess properties that disrupt or weaken magical spells. The most common explanation is that lemons, being associated with sunlight and purity, counteract the darker elements often linked with witchcraft. Witches, particularly those depicted in darker or more malevolent roles, were thought to have difficulty manipulating ingredients that symbolized light or cleansing forces.

    >One popular legend centers around a powerful sorceress who attempted to use a lemon in a potion. The story recounts how the lemon, upon being added to the cauldron, caused the potion to lose its magical properties and sour, symbolizing the incompatibility of the fruit with witchcraft. This tale became a widely circulated cautionary narrative, further embedding the idea that lemons were inherently resistant to magic.

  14. Call me a scumbag but I would have stolen one of those, given it a good Clean, sliced it up and included it my JD & Coke last night

  15. Possibly to deter cats? They supposedly hate citrus. Though mine once ate a lime Callipo, so your mileage may vary.

  16. In parts of India, there are superstitions/traditions about squashing lemons on the ground for certain events. I recall some relatives squashing lemons under their new cars tyres after buying it

  17. This whole raid was as useless as that yellow, lemon-shaped rock over there. Wait a minute. There’s a lemon behind that rock!
