Since he’s not the type to disagree with Putin, the man was probably killed so that Putin could take all his land and money.
Putin is systematically killing off anybody who might possibly replace him after his death, anybody with the slightest ambition for power, as if this is going to help Russia. So the remaining options become more suck-uppy to Putin, true, but they also become weaker in character, less powerful as people, which is not good for Russia as a whole.

It has to be a suicide camouflaged as a murder.
So, there was a gunshot in Moscow. Oh, and also a Putin ally was found dead. hmm
