  1. Safer building CR2 to alleviate the problem entirely

CR2 would then allow you to close the Claphams to fix them

  2. Why does the solution need to be widen the platforms and not have barriers with doors like the Elizabeth line stations?

  3. That… doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Expanding platforms on a station that’s out in the open would be difficult, time-consuming and expensive enough: it’s not just a matter of building wider platforms, they have to move the tracks and the cabling as well… and that just the two most obvious complications.

It’s going to be that much more complicated on the actual underground stretches of the Tube, where the tunnels would have to be widened to accommodate moving the tracks and widening the platform. Not just stations, but whole stretches of the tube line would have to be shut down for months, if not years, for that kind of construction.

These sorts of safety concerns are more likely to lead to the closure of the two stations listed.

  4. does TFL have any plans to address the toxic air in the tube ? have a freaking air condition and air filtration system in the stations ?

  5. A cheap fix would be to provide a free shuttle bus service between Clapham Common, Clapham North and Stockwell as a lot of people change onto the Victoria line at Stockwell. It would reduce the number of people who enter the Clapham stations and then clog the platforms as they cannot fit on any of the full trains heading north at commuting to work time

  6. Why can’t they implement an automatic emergency brake system in the train, when automatically alarmed that somebody has fallen on the tracks?

That way nobody gets ran over by the train if they fall/get pushed into the tracks.

  7. Does having more space on the platforms even fix the problem if the trains are (virtually) full?

  8. It’s not impossible to do as the Subway in Glasgow did modify a few of its stations. But Glasgow’s and London’s geology are vastly different.

  9. Yeah, the London underground is kinda hard to modify due to over a century of things built on top of other things, and the sheer cost of even temporarily closing stations being astronomical

  10. Clapham north is the worst … so narrow and the last stop before the northern line joins the Victoria heading into town.

  11. Are the stations with narrow platforms one after the other?

Close and wall off one northbound and one southbound- voila.

Or, put platform barriers up. That’s gotta be cheaper than entire redevelopment. However…they did it at Bank recently, why not here?

  12. There’s no chance they would widen the likes if Clapham Common ( that’s just a death trap waiting to happen, during peak hours)
What they should do though, is put the screens in like they have on the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines
