According to a report from the GAO, the Jan 6 insurrection caused about $2.7 billion in estimated costs (as of July 2023), plus assaults on over 174 police officers, and the deaths of seven people. And various costs to American society continue to mount (investigations, legal, political).

  1. “It doesn’t matter if you won or lost the election. You still have to fight like hell.” ~Trump, after his 2020 loss.

  2. Not to support this behavior, but I feel like the cost listed is off by a factor of 1000X… I’m seeing between $1.5-3M…

    And 5 deaths… 3 natural causes… 1 drug overdose….

Edit: I even tried finding these numbers in Gov Accountability Office reports…

  3. I think it’s disingenuous to put it this way. This makes it sound like there were $2.7B in damages and the rioters killed 7 people.

  4. The damage caused by the American Nazi (owned by Russia) is immeasurable. He has shaken democracy like no one before him. The GOP and its Deplorable base are guilty of supporting this. Do not forget this when voting.

  5. Yet when BLM “protests” they kill people, flip cars over and burn the car and call it peaceful protesting. Interesting.

  6. Israel Bombs a Russian airbase last night but let’s go deflect on the economy page what a bunch of idiots did 4 years ago in America.

  7. What? Seven? News to me but I assume it’s all reality tv meant to further polarize a people who are just begging to hand over responsibility for their lives.

  8. Awful. The damages for the George Floyd riots were even more atrocious in death and economic damage. Wish both parties wouldn’t be so partisan in their selective focus.

  9. We should never forget that Trump, knowing his supporters were yelling to hang the vice president, tweeted at 2:24 p.m., after the riot was under way:

“Mike Pence didn’t have the courage
to do what should have been done.”

He knew his followers were yelling to hang the Vice President and he was in danger when sending that Tweet.

At that moment, Mike Pence was holed up under the Capitol, and when he saw Trump’s Tweet, Pence told Secret Service:

“I’m not getting in that car.”

And Pence stayed and certified the election. MAGA Republicans hate Pence for this.

Vote for a positive path going forward. Vance’s non-response to the question whether he would certify the election was damning and disqualifying.

  10. What were the costs and continuing costs of the summer of love riots after the George Floyd incident? A comparison would be highly interesting because there was so much damage and so many continuous riots for months.

  11. Not a SINGLE law enforcement officer died on Jan 6th.

Which makes it all the more hilarious that Biden claimed to have attended the funersals of those caps killed by MAGA extremists
