The problem here is that there’s now a precedent of giving territories to other countries against the express wish of the people living there.
There’s very little difference between giving Chagos Islands to Mauritius and giving the Falklands to Argentina.
British are willing to change maldives for a football trophy
They are even so nice to keep a military base there to assure the safety of the islands.
The worst news is that this will literally lead to the first time the sun sets on ~~the British Empire~~British territory since the 18th century.

Mauritius took their rock back before Spain could take theirs, and they did it after only 50 years as opposed to 300.

Can we just give up sovereignty to a few of the politicians’ houses, the politicians that want this sort of thing, and see how they like it? Would be great if we could just deny them a visa to leave their house.
