Ukraine is preparing to deploy newly received US-made 2-CT Hawkeye 105mm self-propelled howitzers in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, as revealed by a Ukrainian Telegram channel . The video showcases using one of these advanced artillery systems at a firing range, mounted on HMMWV all-terrain vehicle chassis.

Despite drone dominance along the front line, artillery remains the primary source of firepower in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Last winter, Ukraine faced a critical shell shortage due to a six-month delay by US Congress Republicans in approving aid funding, alongside the EU’s failure to supply the pledged number of shells. This shortage provided Russia with a battlefield advantage, accelerating gains in eastern Ukraine – a process that continues to this day.

According to Army Recognition, these howitzers were supplied to Ukraine by the American company AM General. Reports suggest that the first tests of these systems began in April 2024, following a secret delivery. Their presence near the front lines indicates successful testing and imminent combat deployment.

The 2-CT Hawkeye remains an experimental prototype, with only a few units produced. Two of these units were previously handed over to the US Army for testing. The system’s performance in Ukraine could play a crucial role in the Pentagon’s decision regarding its potential adoption. The Hawkeye 105mm Weapon System is a lightweight, modular, high-performance howitzer designed to be integrated with many types of combat transportation. By utilizing emerging technologies, it will set the standard for light artillery in the areas of firepower, tactical mobility, strategic deployability and command and control. The Hawkeye will be a superior alternative to existing weapon systems such as the 106mm Recoilless Rifle, 120mm Mortar, and other 105mm artillery systems due to its low-cost precision strike capability.

The Hawkeye has incorporated a groundbreaking modular design. Due to its lightweight and low recoil forces it can be mounted to many types of military vehicles including wheeled, tracked, rail, watercraft, aircraft and towed systems. This means that a performance based 105mm artillery system can be deployed to the land, sea, and air in ways that were never before possible. Additionally, the Hawkeye has been designed to accommodate a full spectrum of barrel lengths if range is a primary requirement.

  6. Ukraine should fly one or two surveillance drones above and around their artillery position when in action…in this way it could have a high chance of detecting Russian drones who are observing these guns so that the operator can alert the gunners.

  9. Iran has threatened to attack Azerbaijan if Israel responds to their latest attack. Typical weak bully, hits the smallest child in class in retaliation because it cannot go against a country properly armed.

  13. Very clever innovation the barrel moves forward as it shoots and then recoils smoothly back to the start position. No doubt this inniovation can be adapted to infantry fighting weapons also and potentially increase the firepower of large caliber anti vehicle rifles. If US doea not build them no doubt Ukraine will.

  14. This 105mm howitzer weapons system looks like it will be very effective on a fast moving battlefield like the one in Ukraine, plus there is plenty of 105mm rounds in both the US and EU storage facilities.

The Democratic Party is much worse than the Republican Party, Denmark might have given 5 times more than the USA comped to GDP nominal per capita, the US government has done almost everything they can to stop Denmark from supporting Ukraine, they are the worst lying people, the republicans might not be much better but maybe they will not prevent other countries in seriously helping Ukraine like the current government, who knows, I just know the current administration is not a good friend of Ukraine

  26. These high mobility fast redeployment systems are exactly what Ukraine needs to counter the Russian use of meat waves assaults.
    Meat wave assaults are used to draw fire from Ukrainian artillery so Russia can find and counter fire on them.
    This will mean that the counterfire from Russia will be on evacuated fire positions and open up the Russian artillery to counter fire now.
    And now NATO gets to evaluate the tactic and equipment for effectiveness and improvement.
