DeutschlandSemesterTicket

Now I have a DeutschlandSemesterTicket but I don’t understand what is this RE/IC, can I take a seat on RE part at this train or it’s not allowed because it is IC with RE

  1. as far as i know you should be able to take this train with a D-Ticket. it’s somehow both an RE and IC

  2. Yes, you can. It’s the other way around.

You are allowed because it’s RE with IC.

And edit: There are no “parts”. Sit in 2nd class and you’re fine.

  3. There used to be a handful of trains with both an RE and an IC designation that would accept *local* public transit tickets but not the *Deutschlandticket*. This situation has, however, been resolved. All trains that have an RE designation accept the Deutschlandticket. The few remaining long-distance trains that accept some local public transit tickets on part of their route but not the Deutschlandticket don’t have an additional RE designation.

Note that IC 2270 runs all the way from Chemnitz to Warnemünde, but its RE “co-branding” and Deutschlandticket acceptance are only on the subsections between Chemnitz and Dresden as well as between Elsterwerda and Berlin Hbf. In particular, you cannot use it between Dresden and Elsterwerda, and not to Berlin Gesundbrunnen or any stop north of Berlin (unless you buy a separate long-distance ticket). You can, however, buy a ticket for Dresden to Elsterwerda valid in IC 2270, and use your Deutschlandticket for the rest of the way, if that is your route. For me, personally, that is the best compromise between cost and speed/comfort.
