I just got to Germany and where I’m staying at I found this red button. I now know it says “close door” but I’m not sure at all what it does. I think it may be used to close the door when I leave but I’m completely confused. Any help? How does it work? Is it an emergency button?

Is there a set of automatic doors somewhere nearby that are constantly open?
buttons like that are usually for “feuerschutztüren” fireresistant doors to stop spreading fires. have you doors in your surrounding that are usually open?
When you push the button, it sends a fax to building management. Then a worker reads the fax, and sends a post to door manager. After waiting at least three days in DHL for delivery, post arrives to door manager and he closes the door but complains about wrong used font size and sends a complaint to building management to use Times New Roman 12 not 11. That will also take at least three days via DHL.
