Just *how* can a councillor fail to pay their council tax?
You get a reminder, you set up the payments, done. We’re not talking about people on the breadline here struggling to make ends meet.
Absolute disgrace, and it seems to happen every year. Why isn’t failing to pay your taxes grounds for automatic removal?
Rules for thee but not for me…..All lefty champaign socialists. Greens/Labour/SNP.
They’re not exactly raking it in, the average councillor gets payed £21,345 and the article mentions those councillors are on payment plans?
Sounds like people just struggling in a cost of living crisis like the rest of us.
That the BBC runs for comment from the Tax Payers Alliance – a right wing organisation funded by those with an interest in tax avoidance – is laughable.
BBC coverage of tax evasion by millionaires – zero.
I’m surprised it’s only four of them.
This is for the 24-25 years CT. It needs paid but it’s not like it’s historical dodging.

Doesn’t failing imply you actually trying?
Councillors are not automatically millionaires; most of them are just ordinary people, and a councillor’s basic salary is £21kpa. It’s hardly surprising that some of them – like plenty of others across Scotland (https://www.stepchange.org/media-centre/press-releases/rise-in-council-tax-arrears-scotland.aspx) – might be struggling to pay their bills.
Ah poor councilors only on £21000 a year l would quite like that salary for a part time job !🤬
