  1. >In 2020, BP unveiled a plan to cut oil and gas production 40 percent by 2030 as part of the company’s goal to reach “net-zero” emissions by 2050 or sooner. This February, the company announced it’d instead seek a 25 percent reduction by the end of the decade. Then, on Monday, Reuters reported that BP intends to abandon that pledge altogether and instead expand production in the Middle East and the Gulf of Mexico.

  2. they are more incentivized to not care and pretend it’s the people’s problem to solve.. that the vast majority of us have to collectively not buy things that cause any pollution as if the options are there right in front of us

  3. I wonder why they’re planning on expanding production.

**SUVs are setting new sales records each year – and so are their emissions**

*The large, heavy passenger vehicles were responsible for over 20% of the growth in global energy-related CO2 emissions last year*

*Today, more than one in four cars on the road worldwide are SUVs, the majority of which are conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.*

*In advanced economies, SUV sales reached around 20 million last year, surpassing a market share of 50% for the first time.*

*The trend towards heavier and less fuel-efficient cars increases energy demand, including oil and electricity use, as well as demand for basic metals and critical minerals needed for battery production.* ***Over the course of 2022 and 2023, global oil consumption directly related to SUVs rose by a total of over 600 000 barrels per day, accounting for more than a quarter of the overall annual growth in oil demand.***
